Miguel Ângelo Rocha, Stones and Potatoes #1, 2021, graphite, collage, gouache, 29,7x42cm
The work of Miguel Ângelo Rocha presented in this exhibition was started in 2020, in what was to be the first COVID-19 lockdown in Portugal. During that time the artist produced around 200 drawings and collages, from which he selected 3 in A3 («Stones and Potatoes» #1, #2 and #3) and the 40 pieces in A4 which make up the «Calcium» panel.
The drawings were produced using the materials that the artist had at home: 100 gram A3 and A4 paper, graphite, gouache, coloured pencils, acrylic paint and small objects. During this time the artist also began work on the sculptures entitled «Stones» (#1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7 and #8) using everyday materials and objects, as well as the maquettes for the sculptures «Carborundum» and «Topanga».
