Adriana Molder, O Jardim de Bruegel, da série RAIOS, 2026, tinta-da-china sobre papel esquisso, 220 x 200 cm
— until the lightning strikes the tongue
and nothing more can be heard
Before the thunder, there is a silence that contains everything. In a carbonised scroll found in the ruins of Herculaneum, George Steiner once read this aphorism: when lightning speaks, it speaks of darkness. It is in this paradox that the drawings of Adriana Molder live — in the instant when light bursts in not to illuminate but to reveal the depth of the darkness surrounding it. RAIOS is not an exhibition about lightning. It is an exhibition made of it.
Adriana Molder presents at Galeria 111 a new series of seven large-scale drawings and three suspended moulded canvases, works which by impulse — and of her passion — represent a habitual transition from drawing to sculpture. Surfaces that become volume. These are large-format works, with irregular and organic forms where ink falls upon sketchy paper to reaffirm the importance of the portrait as the central body of her work. New explorations are introduced here, through the recreation of exterior environments, and, of course, the characteristic solemnity ever-present in Molder’s universes.
