Paula Rego
PAULA REGO (Lisbon, Portugal 1935 – London, United Kingdom 2022)
Portuguese-British artist, studied at the Slade School of Art in London and was a member of The London Group. In 1989, was shortlisted for the Turner Prize. Since her first solo exhibition in 1965, her work has been exhibited in the most prestigious galleries and museums around the world: 2022, “Paula Rego. The Story of Stories”, Pera Museum, Istanbul, Turkey; “Paula Rego. There and Back Again”, Kestner Gesellschaft, Hannover, Germany; 2021, “Paula Rego”, Tate Britain, London, UK; 2018, “The Cruel Stories of Paula Rego”, Musée de l’Orangerie, Paris, France; 2012, “Paula Rego: Retrospectiva”, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, Portugal; among others. Her work is represented in numerous national and international public and private collections, such as Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Manuel de Brito Collection, CACE – Coleção de Arte Contemporânea do Estado, Lisbon, Portugal; National Gallery, Tate, London, UK; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA; among many others.
